(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new documentary takes a deep dive into the relationship between Hip Hop and the logo of a Chicago sports team.
Andrew Barber is the founder and creator of Fake Shore Drive, a popular Chicago Hip Hop blog. He’s also a producer of the new documentary “Fitted in Black,” which tells the story of the 1990s rebrand of the White Sox logo to black, silver and white and how some popular rappers helped turn that design into a home run.
“In some of those early, West Coast rap videos, it was front and center,” Barber told WBBM Newsradio on Friday. “It was almost like a uniform for them. In fact, Dr. Dre wore that hat in his first four solo music videos.”
Ice Cube is also among the hip-hop names involved in the documentary. He says he considered the White Sox hat to be “fly.”
Barber called the feedback “overwhelming,” but not surprising.
“I think the story was something that needed to be told, and I’m glad we were able to do that to coincide with Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary.”
Hip Hop is believed to have started in the Bronx in 1973.
