CRETE TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – Authorities in Will County are investigating a disturbing case after six dogs were found dead inside black plastic bags along a rural roadway last month, in what officials say may be connected to dog fighting.
The dogs were discovered March 3 near Norfolk Avenue and Kings Road in unincorporated Crete Township by a local highway maintenance crew, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said all six animals were pit bull mixes and showed signs consistent with possible involvement in dog fighting. Authorities also said the dogs had been inhumanely euthanized, though specific details about how they died have not been released.
“This was a gruesome and horrifying discovery, and we won’t tolerate it,” Deputy Chief Jeremy Zdzinicki said.
Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow said there are no current leads on a suspect and warned that whoever is responsible could pose a broader danger.
“Anyone who would do this… is an incredibly dangerous person,” he said.
Will County Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and charges in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the tip line at 800-323-6734.
