Officials ID driver found dead after car pulled from suburban pond

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Officials have identified the driver who was found dead after their vehicle was pulled from a Westmont pond Sunday morning.

According to the DuPage County Coroner’s Office, the victim is 64-year-old John J. Lynch of Darien.

Water rescue crews arrived just after 10:30 a.m. to a retention pond near the corner of Route 83 and Ogden Avenue.

Lynch was pulled from the submerged car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Westmont Fire Chief Steve Riley tells WBBM the driver was likely headed southbound on Route 83 when they veered off the road, drove through a field and into the pond.

The cause of death and toxicology reports are still pending.

The Westmont fire and police departments were assisted by Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Tri-State, Downers Grove, Lisle-Woodridge, Naperville and Warrenville Fire Departments along with MERIT accident Reconstruction.
