A dog is recovering in foster care after she was found restrained by zip ties and left for dead in rural Kankakee County.

A farmer in Manteno named Grant Senesac happened to see the dog in a snow-covered field in early January.

At first he thought it was a coyote. Then he got closer and saw that someone had left the female Keeshond with her legs bound.

“The front and the back legs were tied together so that the dog couldn’t actually get up and move,” he told WBBM Newsradio on Tuesday. “There were four zip-ties, I believe, around the muzzle of the dog’s mouth so the dog couldn’t bark, couldn’t make any noise.

“So no one would be able to hear it if there was coyotes or whatever (that were) going to basically finish the dog off.”

Senesac said he suspected a neighbor — a breeder — had left the dog there because footprints in the snow came from her house.

He said the dog was apparently beyond her breeding years, so the neighbor didn’t want to take care of her any longer.

Senesac called animal control, and the neighbor is now criminally charged.

The rescued dog is doing well in a foster home. She’s been named G.G., for Good Girl.
