(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A wild ride in the Western Suburbs lands one man behind bars.

Police in the Western suburbs arrest a man accused of stealing vehicles, including a city-owned truck.

St. Charles Police found a damaged security gate and a utility truck missing from the city's Public Works Facility.

The truck was later found abandoned downtown St. Charles.

A short time later, officers got word of another vehicle theft and found that car engulfed in flames in an unincorporated area of Kane County.

“It is kind of rare for a person to steal a car, leave it a short distance away, then steal another one. Given the circumstances of this particular event, I think this is rare,” said Eric Majewski, the deputy chief of operations for St. Charles Police.

44 year old Joshua Ales of Dundee was arrested in a nearby tree line and connected to both thefts.

Ales faces a dozen charges, including nine felonies.
