(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 40-year old Elmhurst woman and two juveniles have been ordered held on charges they beat and robbed a motorist this week.
Marie Velez stepped in front of a car that was going east on Grand Avenue near the I-290 overpass Tuesday night, forcing the car to stop, according to DuPage County prosecutors and Elmhurst police.
Velez and two teens allegedly opened the driver's door and began punching the 63-year-old driver in his face and head. The man was robbed of his wallet, and the attackers ran off, officials said.
The three suspects were arrested a short time later at a nearby hotel.
Velez's next court appearance is in February. The juveniles will be in front of a judge next week.
"The allegations that a grown woman enlisted the help of two juveniles and together they robbed and beat an innocent man are outrageous," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. "The type of brazen, unprovoked attack alleged against these defendants will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be met with the full force of the law."
