(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- One of the North Shore's most noted public high schools says it's seeing chronic absenteeism, and apparently its highest absentee rate ever among seniors.
New Trier High School says more than one fourth of its students has missed at least 10 percent of classes this school year, which is considered chronic absenteeism.
The North Shore Record quotes a New Trier principal who says the senior absentee rate is the highest it has ever been. Administrators say they will come up with a strategy to offset absences and brief the Board of Education this month on their plans.
New Trier officials say that among seniors, the chronic absentee rate is 40 percent.
The Illinois Policy Institute has already reported that chronic absenteeism is on the rise in the Chicago Public Schools: nearly 45 percent last year.
The statewide rate is 30 percent.
