EVANSTON, IL (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The city of Evanston plans on hiking its water rate for the next two years.

According to Evanston Now, rates are expected to increase by 5% in 2023 and another 4% in 2024. City administrators reason that the hikes will defray the annual cost of $861,000 to replacing lead lines as well as the staffing of the construction project.

The city also said the line replacement program will also require $930,000 worth of new equipment, but that could be funded through the American Rescue Plan.
