(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Most of the Evanston residents eligible for racial reparations have decided on the kinds of benefits they want to receive.
Sixteen Evanstonians will each receive $25,000 in assistance. Of that group, six decided on a home improvement benefit, according to the city; six chose a combination of home improvement and mortgage assistance; two picked mortgage assistance only; and one person selected help in buying a home.
One person hasn’t yet made a decision.
Evanston has set aside $10 million for the program. Mayor Daniel Biss says Evanston is taking the historic step to acknowledge the moral responsibility the north suburb has.
