CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A former U.S. Postal carrier confessed Monday to stealing government stimulus checks from the mail during the pandemic.

Thirty-five-year-old Olivia Bryant pleaded guilty in federal court to a felony theft charge. She admitted that during a two-year period, in 2020 and 2021, she pilfered hundreds of pieces of mail from her route in Logan Square. According to the plea agreement, several envelopes included government issued COVID-19 stimulus checks.

Bryant fessed up to stealing five checks on St. Patrick’s Day in 2021, revealing she took the checks out of her postal bag and then placed them in her purse.

Bryant will be sentenced on December 7. She could serve up to five years in federal prison.
