CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --A family is now suing a South Side funeral home after they were presented with the wrong body.

Lawyers for the Williams family tell WBBM that a corpse was presented for them to view dressed in their father's clothing, but that the body in those clothes was not that of their late father, Philip Williams Sr.

On August 19, 2022, the funeral home reassured the family that "the remains had been prepared for a dignified, respectful, lawful burial," according to the lawsuit.

A lawsuit filed by Phillip Williams Jr. on behalf of the family, now claims that Leak & Sons funeral home on South Cottage Grove misplaced William Senior's remains in another facility that was over an hour’s drive away.

This caused a scramble to properly prepare him for the funeral, which took place the following day.

"What was meant to be their final act of honoring and showing his love for Phillip Williams Sr., turned out to be a living nightmare," the lawsuit stated.

The lawsuit also said that the incident was "extremely traumatic" for the family and caused "significant distress."
