The father of a 6-year-old boy who brought a gun to his West Side school this week has been charged with endangering the life of a child.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been contacted, and the father Marcus Daniel of East Garfield Park neighborhood is due in court April 4. Daniel has been charged for child endangerment - a misdemeanor.
The Tribune reports that the 6 year-old mother told police that he'd been spending the last couple of days at his father's home before bringing the gun to Ella Flagg Young elementary school on Wednesday. She added that the boy later explained to her that his friends told him to do it, after he had told them that he knew where his father kept a gun.
The gun had been discovered by a school staffer under a table during lunchtime after several students had made a social worker on lunch duty aware of it.
