(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The father of the Highland Park shooting suspect will go trial, a judge ruled Monday.

The judge refused to dismiss the case against Robert Crimo Jr., who helped his son, Robert Crimo III, get a gun license three years before authorities say the younger man shot and killed seven people at the 2022 Fourth of July parade in north suburban Highland Park.

The father's lawyer said his client was charged under a unconstitutionally vague law, but the judge rejected that argument and so the trial will start Nov. 6, as previously scheduled.

Robert Crimo Jr. has pleaded not guilty to several counts of reckless conduct.

Prosecutors say he helped his son get a state license to possess guns, even though the then-19-year-old had threatened violence.
