CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A trial currently underway at the Dirksen Federal Building could unveil plenty of ties between Chicago’s gang and rap communities, experts say.

Charles “C Murda” Liggins, Kenneth “Kenny Mac” Roberson, and Christopher “C Thank” Thomas were among six people — referred to by prosecutors as members and associates of a notorious Chicago street gang — charged in connection to the August 2020 murder of Chicago rapper FBG Duck, whose real name was Carlton Weekly.

Weekly was shot and killed outside of a Gold Coast Dolce and Gabbana store over what investigators have said was a longtime gang conflict.

The shooting also wounded Weekly’s girlfriend and a bystander. Informants have said another Chicago rapper, King Von, who was fatally shot in Atlanta not long after Weekly’s murder, ordered the killing.

Experts said YouTube videos, rap lyrics and hip-hop blogs will all likely be in play during the trial. Another local rapper referred to the case in a recent interview as something out of the TV show “Law and Order.”

The names of jury members will be kept secret, after prosecutors successfully argued they could be targeted during the proceedings.
