(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Federal authorities have unsealed documents laying out what they describe as a multi-state plot by three people to come to Chicago this month and attack at least one mosque.

Federal investigators say 18-year-old Xavier Pelkey of Waterville, Maine and two unnamed juveniles — one from Chicago, the other from Kentucky — planned on social-media platforms to meet in Chicago to carry out violent plans.

Investigators say the plan was to gather in Chicago late this month and attack at least one Shia mosque and kill adults, then move onto another mosque or a synagogue until police stopped or killed them.

Saadia Pervaiz, with the Council on American Islamic Relations-Chicago, said hate crime charges would be appropriate in the case.

The FBI says authorities found weapons, including guns, swords, knives, ISIS flags and electronic devices while searching the Chicago teen’s residence.

Agents allegedly found improvised explosive devices in a backpack while searching Pelkey’s apartment in Maine last month. He has been charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device.

He is being held without bail.

No further information was available.
