CPD officers exchange gunfire with two men in University Village

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police Department officers were involved in a shooting Friday night in the University Village neighborhood.

Police said two tactical officers saw two men with handguns around 10:45 p.m. on the 1300 block of West Hastings. As they approached the men, one of them fired at the officers and they returned fire, hitting the man.

He has non-life-threatening wounds and the officers were not hit.

The second person ran and was caught. Police said two handguns were recovered. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident.

The officers, as per policy, will be on administrative duties for 30 days.
