(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Field Museum has received some brand-new pieces of history to study.
Fossil meteorites shipped from a quarry in Sweden fell 470 million years ago into an ocean and down to the sea floor, before becoming limestone.
Philipp Heck, meteorite curator at the Field Museum, calls the new shipment a "dream come true. The meteorites could provide insight into the histories of the Earth and the solar system.
“That makes it so exciting. These are really, truly unique samples that we have now,” Heck said Monday.
Some of the samples may eventually be put on display for museum visitors.
