
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A fire in a Chicago steakhouse Friday sent customers out of the building and prompted a large response by the fire department, snarling rush hour traffic.
The fire broke out in the kitchen at Smith & Wollensky at Marina City along the Chicago River at State Street. Heavy smoke was seen billowing from the restaurant at about 5:30 p.m.
It was reported to have been in the ventilation system in the ceiling of the kitchen.
One firefighter was injured. He was seen on a stretcher, alert and talking. Firefighters had it under control is about 30 minutes.
The fire appeared to be out by just before 6 p.m. The Marina City location of Smith & Wollensky opened in 1998.
