CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An early morning fire has left a West Side tire shop and Caribbean restaurant in ruins.
According to Chicago Fire officials, crews were dispatched to the West Garfield Park building, on Madison and Kostner, a little after 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Firefighters encountered strong flames shooting out of BK Tire Shop. The fire spread to surrounding buildings, which included the restaurant Jerk 48 and caused portions of the tire shop to collapse, the department said. No injuries were reported.
Crews extinguished the fire at around 5 a.m., officials said.
Despite reports of nearby residents hearing an explosion coming from the tire shop, the fire remains under investigation.
