CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for Chicago, southeastern Cook County and Indiana’s Lake County on Sunday afternoon.

NWS said the affected areas saw 3 – 9 inches of rain on Sunday and added that flooding was ongoing near rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying, flood-prone locations.

The warning will remain in effect until 9 a.m. Monday, officials said.

On Sunday, roads and highways in Cook County were flooded after heavy rains. On the inbound Bishop Ford Expressway, the two left lanes were temporarily underwater.

Officials said drivers should turn around when encountering flooded roads.
