
Monarch butterflies are starting to head south for the winter.
An event in Lincoln Park this weekend gives people a chance to see how conservationists track their migration.
Before they begin the 2,000-mile trek to Mexico, some Monarch butterflies at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum are tagged.
Program development specialist Jeff Wolfthal says an entomologist puts a small white sticker on one of their wings.
It’s not a tracking device. It simply has information about where the butterfly emigrated from.
Guests can learn about monarchs at the nature museum’s Flutter into Fall event on Saturday 10am-2pm.
