LAKE FOREST, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As more people are looking for help getting and paying for groceries, the Northern Illinois Food Bank held a ribbon-cutting on a larger space in Lake Forest Tuesday morning.

Food Bank President and CEO Julie Yurko said inflation has added to the already dramatic increase in need they’ve seen since the start of the pandemic.

"Since March, we have seen a 30 percent increase in need coming to all of our food pantries and programs across our 13 counties."

Manager of the new facility Scott Keenan said they’ll continue a partnership last year with DoorDash to deliver food and supplies to people in need.

Lake Forest Mayor George Pandaleon said the residents can help meet the need for volunteers.

"I think you're gonna find a very rich trove of opportunity for both donations of time, talent, and treasure from the people of Lake Forest."
