(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Jaymay Nellum-Fane went from chasing down bad guys to trying to help good guys feel more relaxed.

Nellum-Fane was a Chicago police officer for 16 years, and then she had twin daughters three years ago at age 45. A change was in order.

“I said I just need to be home with my babies. It’s got to be more to life than this,” she said.

So Nellum-Fane and her husband decided to import shea butter and add fragrances to them and sell them for skin care and wellness. La Collection Mouja was born.

“We have like natural scents — vanilla, orange, green apple. A lot of the men tend to like Creed. We have a fragrance called Creed and Sauvage. Our ladies love our Pink Chiffon and Midnight Secrets,” Nellum-Fane said.

La Collection Mouja also sells products with CBD (cannabidiol) and promotes itself to Chicago police. Nellum-Fane visited the 22nd District on the Southwest Side to talk about her products.

“One of our top sellers is the CBD with melatonin because a lot of officers don’t sleep well at night, possibly due to PTSD, depression,” she said.

As for how the company’s name came about, that was another blend.

“My name is Jaymay, of course, and then my husband is Moustapha,” Nellum-Fane said. “So, we just took the ‘mou’ out of his name and the ‘ja’ out of mine, and we came up with ‘Mouja.’”

Products for La Collection Mouja are made in the Austin neighborhood on the city’s West Side.
