CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Former Congressman Luis Gutierrez is warning voters in the Latino community not to wait until Election Day to vote.

Gutierrez was part of a strategy meeting in a conference room at the National Museum of Mexican Art with clergy, business and community leaders.

They're all concerned about potential problems at polling places in the Latino community on Election Day.

The former congressman said he’s concerned about polling places opening late and a shortage of election judges.

"It's historic," he said.  "With few judges, with long waiting lines."

Gutierrez also said that causes people to give up and not vote and that he’ll be standing by with lawyers on election day should there be issues with voting in the Latino community.

"Don't wait for Election Day," he emphasized. "Vote early. Too many bad things can happen."

Juan Morado Jr., Chair of the Latino Leadership Council, noted that the Latino community is working-class.

"If the polls are not open on time on Election Day, especially with the Latino community being predominantly working class, it's going to disproportionately affect them."
