There’s something new to see at the Art Institute of Chicago with ties to a local baseball team.
It comes courtesy of former Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and his wife Diana, who after several months of discussions, have donated Norman Rockwell’s 1948 painting “The Dugout” to the museum.
The Art Institute’s first ever Rockwell piece will be on display near Grant Wood’s “American Gothic.”
You’ve likely seen the painting, which shows a number of dejected Chicago Cubs following a loss to the Boston Braves.
It’s believed to be worth between 700 thousand and one million dollars.
The Rauners say it felt like the right time to share the painting with the community, while museum officials call it “a transformative acquisition.”
