(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The future of Weiss Memorial Hospital in the Uptown neighborhood is the subject of a community meeting at the hospital later this week.

The owners of Weiss Memorial Hospital announced last month they were selling it, pending state board approval.

That sale is the subject of the community meeting Thursday at Weiss.

Months ago, the hospital said it was selling a parking lot to a developer. Some in the community wondered then if that was the beginning of the end of Weiss Hospital.

Now, Weiss CEO Irene Dumanis said the hospital has opened a new $6 million, 11,000-square-foot orthopedics center.

She concedes some in the community are skeptical that whoever owns Weiss will actually keep it open.

"Weiss has been through multiple changes of ownership in the last 15 years, and there's always questions," she said.

Dumanis says Weiss will continue to support the community and "take care of their health care needs."
