(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The latest online trend is all about saving to members of the youngest consumers.
It's called “duping.” Generation Z is on the lookout for bargains, and they are in search of cheaper substitutes for anything, from store-brand cookies to knockoff designer merchandise.
Retail consultant Jan Rogers Kniffen said Gen Z doesn’t mind buying fakes for substantially less.
“The fakes have gotten so much better that they really are hard to tell from the real thing,” he told the Noon Business Hour on Thursday.
As one influencer says, customers want the look and there's no shame in the dupe or the knockoff.
