(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — She is perhaps the most famous drag queen in the country: Southern-born, New York City diva Lady Bunny. And she’s coming to Chicago this weekend.

When Lady Bunny comes to Chicago, she’ll be the headliner at the Drag Brunch on Saturday at Fairmount Chicago, Millennium Park. The performer, a contemporary of RuPaul, was founder of Manhattan's Wigstock festival.

Now 59 years old, Bunny’s audience is aging along with the drag dowager.

Like a recent Christmas show when the producers added an early bird show.

“And I was like, ‘No!  I’m not performing at 6:30. That’s like retirement home age,’” the performer tells WBBM Newsradio.

“Well, that show sold out, too.”

Realizing “drag” is not the same as “trans,” Bunny has some thoughts about recent attacks on trans women in Chicago and elsewhere.

“We are going to be stuck in a holding pattern of just grieving and not changing things unless we determine what are the situations under which these murders are occurring and who is committing them.

“I do not see any discussion of that.”
