More than half of Illinois residents are still in need of their REAL ID’s, a big reason why state leaders are trying to make the process easier ahead of a looming and costly deadline.

“This is about meeting people where they are on their time, not ours.”

Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announcing the REAL ID supercenter at Clark and Lake will be open the next three Saturdays from 8am to 4pm.

“These hours are specifically designed for people who can’t come in during a workweek and still need to get this done before February 1st, when the $45 per person penalty kicks in.”

Additionally, the Cook County Clerk’s office is expanding Saturday hours for those in need of the required documents for REAL ID application, while DMV sites across Illinois also plan to expand service leading up to February 1st.

“The cost of living, as we know, is already too high. We don’t want Illinoisans paying more or dealing with unnecessary travel stress, simply because they couldn’t get to a facility during the week.”
