UPDATE: 13-year-old girl shot and critically wounded in Evanston backyard, police say

EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A teenage girl is said to be fighting for her life this morning after being shot in a backyard in Evanston Monday night.

Evanston police said the 13-year old girl was among a group of teens in the backyard of a home in the 1300 block of Fowler. Around 6:20 p.m., police said someone fired a gun over the fence, hitting the girl in the neck. Police do not believe the girl was the target. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.

No one else was injured and police are still looking for a suspect.
