(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 4-year-old girl has died after she was shot Wednesday in her west suburban River Grove home, police said.

River Grove Police Department officials said officers arrived at a home on the 2400 block of West Street around 10 a.m. and found that the young girl had been accidentally shot by another child who lives in the same household.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the girl as Camila Ariana Duarte.

Camila’s father told police he was outside when he was alerted to the shooting by another child, and he immediately called 911. Investigators said he is cooperating with them.

Officials said he has valid firearm owners identification and concealed carry cards.

The father also admitted to owning the gun involved in his daughter's death, but he told authorities he kept it on a high shelf in a closet.

Interviews with those involved in the shooting are ongoing, officials said. No additional information has been released.
