(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — NorthShore University HealthSystem broke ground Tuesday on a new cardiovascular center that will be built in one of Chicago’s northern suburbs.
The 170,000-square-foot Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) is coming to Glenview’s Glenbrook Hospital, and officials said it will serve as NorthShore’s central hub for elective cardiac and vascular procedures, catheterizations, and interventions.
Hospital officials said construction will cost $170 million, and they project the center will be completed by early 2024.
“Our vision is to create a center of cardiovascular excellence that brings together world-renowned experts and emerging technologies such as [artificial intelligence], robotics, and genetic testing,” said NorthShore’s Division of Cardiology Chief Dr. Gregory Mishkel.
The complex will also focus on women’s heart health, sports cardiology, cardio-oncology, and cardiac rehabilitation. Officials said it will house six CVI-dedicated operating rooms and nine new labs.
NorthShore University HealthSystem launched its CVI program in 2015.
