(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Some goats enjoyed their last day of summer Tuesday before returning to work for ComEd.
There was lots of love for the trip, the term to describe a collective of goats (“herd” and “tribe” are also in usage). The animals were recognized for what Tom Ringhofer from ComEd’s vegetation management program says was another successful season of helping prevent power outages.
“They cleared 7 acres of brush under our transmission lines. So, they’re taking a relaxing day out to see the city,” he said.
Goats are able to get to hard-to-reach places that humans find challenging, Ringhofer said.
“Where the goats are working are steep ravines. Having people go up and down those ravines is a safety issue,” he said. “Goats, they’re sure-footed. They can go up and down. They have no problems and they love it.”
ComEd customers got a chance to mingle with the landscaping crew.
