(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- All six of the Republican candidates for Illinois Governor met in a single debate for the first time Thursday night. Hosted by Channel 7, the hopefuls aired differences and sometimes traded jabs.

When asked about curbing violence in Chicago during the debate, the six GOP candidates have varying suggestions.

"We need to hire more police in the city of Chicago in the state of Illinois. We're down drastically for many reasons, including the the vaccine mandate that many police left as a force for."

Suburban attorney Max Solomon expressed an idea in support of Concealed Carry.

"Relax the concealed carry law to allow law- abiding citizens who want to care to protect themselves and their families to do so in the state of Illinois."

State senator Darren Bailey blamed Democrats for the violence.

"Mayor Lightfoot, Governor Pritzker, Kim Fox and their woke anti-police policies- they are responsible for this."

Mayor Richard Irvin proposed the three C's.

"Children, because most crime is being committed committed by young people- get them in programs in school off the streets and out of mischief. Second 'c'- cops when I say cops, I'm talking about community-oriented police officers.

The third "c" that Irvin referred to was community.
