(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The administration of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is funding a billboard campaign that seeks to persuade Illinois police officers into moving to Florida.

DeSantis is offering $5,000 signing bonuses to police officers who relocate to Florida and specifically targeting officers in the Chicago area.

He chided Illinois its public safety policies, including the pending end of cash bail in the state.

“I look forward to welcoming the Illinois men and women in blue to the law-and-order state,” the Republican said in a news release.

DeSantis, who has launched a presidential campaign, has been publicly feuding with Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker.

The Florida recruitment effort is part of a state law that has, so far, lured 2,700 officers to Florida, 37 from Illinois, according to the news release.
