CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Following comments by David Brown, Mayor Lightfoot's police superintendent, WBBM asked candidates for mayor to weigh-in on the fatal shooting by Chicago police.

"Why couldn't the situation be de-escalated is really my concern.  And, what is our strategy for de-escalation?" said mayoral challenger Ja'Mal Green. "For some reason, they always make it seem like the person is just ready to shoot and kill someone.  And, I think there's always a way to prevent these situations from arising."

Green said he will be interested in seeing all the facts about the shooting.

The other candidate who responded, Willie Wilson, also wants to learn more about the shooting. Wilson had some general comments on Mayor Lightfoot.

"It seems as though the mayor of this city right now has more sympathy toward the people that commit the crime than the innocent people who are out here losing their loved ones," Wilson said.

Wilson again stood by his comments that police chasing suspects should be able to "hunt them down like a rabbit."
