ELK GROVE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police are increasing their patrols of Grove Junior High in Elk Grove starting today.

The move follows several incidents at the school.

More patrols on foot and in squad cars are coming after Mayor Craig Johnson directed the police department to increase its presence at the middle school.

The village said there have been at least two violent fights at Grove recently, and last week a student showed a knife and threatened to stab another student.

No one was hurt, but the village is asking District 59 to assign a police officer to the school like there are at Meade Junior High and Elk Grove High School.
