(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Volunteers have until Friday to join a group that aims to address racism against Jewish, Muslim and Arab students and staff at Evanston Township High School.
ETHS interim spokeswoman Reine Hanna says the school extended the deadline for people to apply for the working group of 20 that will be made up of students, staff, parents and residents.
She tells WBBM Newsradio the administration has heard during listening sessions since the Israel-Hamas war began that some students and staff have lost their “sense of belonging” at the school. Hanna said there hasn’t been a specific incident that prompted the initiative.
The group will first gather Thursday next week. Its meetings will be private, but a report of their findings and the superintendent’s suggestions will be made public later this year.
