CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Nearly 400 married couples gathered at Holy Name Cathedral on Sunday to celebrate quite the achievement.

The couples were recognized for reaching 50 years of marriage.

Cardinal Blase Cupich Archdiocese presided over the Archdiocese of Chicago’s annual Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass.

The archbishop congratulated the couples during his homily and thanked them for how exemplary their love and loyalty truly is.

“The grace that you received when you pledged your lives to each other was not some sort of magical formula, something that was given all at once…It comes in those particular moments in which we are challenged in life, but also given the possibility to grow in to our humanity, to grow in our relationship with one another,” Cupich said.

As part of the liturgy, the celebrating couples renewed their marriage vows.
