State Senator Andy Zay has introduced a bill that would make the breaded pork tenderloin the state sandwich of Indiana.
The republican is from Huntington, home of Nick’s Kitchen.
That’s where the state’s tourism site says in 1908, the son of German immigrants served up a tenderized piece of breaded pork on a bun with pickles.
While many consider it to be the Hoosier sandwich, a bill filed by Zay in 2023 to make it official did not go anywhere.
Illinois does not have a sandwich on its list of official favorites, but if one was to be added the Horseshoe or Italian beef are strong contenders.
