(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With an increase in fake cannabis dispensary sites and misleading CBD claims, the Better Business Bureau is urging consumers to do their research.
Steve Bernas with the Better Business Bureau said as more stores have moved online since the pandemic, so have scammers.
"We're seeing a lot more online fake shops online, make it look like they're a legitimate organization and especially with the CBD claims, they kind of use the health benefits a little bit more than they should," he explained.
"What I mean by that is that they're promising all these types of health benefits, when they do not have scientific evidence to support that."
He said it's largely up to consumers to do their research on these companies...and that the more people report scams, the more likely it is these businesses will get caught.
"It truly does make a difference of everybody. Nine out of 10 people don't complain. That's why scams keep increasing and the only way put scams out of business is not to give me your business."
Bernas recommends paying with credit cards so its easy to get your money back if you do get scammed, and to report any fraudulent sites to the Better Business Bureau.
