AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Humane Society of Aurora says it's ending its six-year association with the city's Animal Care and Control because the city agency has restricted access to its volunteers
"We just sort of overall feel that we are not as welcome there as we once were," Tari Crema, president of the Humane Society of Aurora, said Thursday.
Six years ago, Crema said, the Humane Society helped turn things around at Aurora's Animal Control. Back then, only four out of ten animals left the building alive; by the next year, it was nine out of ten, she said.
But Animal Control is restricting their access at the shelter, she said.
"We can't guarantee the public that the animals throughout the shelter are being well taken care of," Crema said.
In her words, she said, "We're moving on."
The Humane Society has about 125 volunteers.
WBBM Newsradio has asked the city of Aurora and the head of Aurora's Animal Care and Control for a response.
