(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In the last week of 2024 Cook County held a lottery to see who would receive the first marriage license in the new year.

With over 200 submissions, 26-year-old Aisha Buford-Morrison and 28-year-old Terrell Johnson of South Chicago won the lottery.

Mr. Johnson took a moment to reflect on the couple’s first date, back in 2019.

“And when I seen her, time stopped. It was the best moment of my life was getting to see her the first time in person. And every time since then, that moment, even now standing in front of you all is still the same,” he said.

The couple from South Chicago, matched on Tinder in 2019 and they continued to communicate online playing video games.

In 2023, Terrell popped the question.

“In the park where we first met and where we went on our first date,” Aisha said.

They left the Cook County Office Building on Washington man and wife on just the second day of 2025. The wedding ceremony was officiated by Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon.
