CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The city’s inspector general said the city is losing millions of dollars a year, because a city department is not following recommendations he made two years ago.
Inspector General Joe Ferguson said city departments, many times, give lip service to his recommendations, missing easy opportunities to provide public confidence in government operations and effectiveness.
An example of that includes the Chicago Department of Transportation. The IG reported two years ago the city was losing out on millions of dollars by not adequately billing and collecting permit fees for commercial property owners, who have driveways that use the public way.
The IG said the problem still exists, because CDOT said it can’t figure out who owns a property or ownership is disputed.
