(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is laying out its "carbon footprint" to battle climate change.
A pollinator-friendly solar installation, electric charging stations in state parks, and greater use of electric vehicles and equipment are all part of the climate action plan from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
The climate action plan aims to reduce the agency's carbon footprint to zero prior to 2050.
"It's very important work and everyone is really committed to it," said Chris Young of IDNR.
He also said the effects of climate change can be seen all around us and the fight for the planet has to look at the big picture.
"We're really interested in trying to create systems that are healthy as possible so we can pass them on to our kids and grandkids."
Proposals also include a Power Purchase Agreement in which the IDNR may license parcels of land and buy the solar-generated electricity from the vendor at a discount.
