The person infected with measles is an adult living in the Metro East area near St. Louis.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports the adult recently returned from travel out of state.

IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra says the first reported case of measles in Illinois in 2026 is a reminder that the virus can be prevented with up-to-date vaccination.
