(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Illinois nonprofit that supplies cadavers to medical schools has been sued by a Chicago man who claims the organization mistreated his mother’s donated body in an extreme way.

In his lawsuit, Loren Santow said his mother’s head was removed from her body and used as “a deranged prop” to intimidate a whistleblower.

Santow filed a lawsuit last week against the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois (AGA) and eight in-state medical schools represented on the group’s board of directors. In it, he accused them of negligence and breach of duty.

An employee of the AGA went public in 2023 with claims of retaliation and specifically described an instance in which three severed heads were left near his desk after he complained of rotting and bug-infested cadavers.

WBBM has reached out to the AGA for comment.
