(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Illinois secretary of state says his office received more than 54,000 requests for vanity license plates this year, and now he's sharing some of the rejects.
Alexi Giannoulias posted a video Wednesday detailing some of the 304 vanity plate requests that did not make the cut because they crossed the center line.
“They were denied because they were deemed too obscene or too defamatory by our team, which is well-versed in pithy puns, lecherous language and sneaky swearing,” Giannoulias said in the video.
A handful of rejected requests include “EATBUTT,” “BONER,” "MILFS,” “WOOPASS,” POOPSY,” “DZNUTS,” and “IOWASUX,” the secretary of state’s office said. In some cases, letter combinations, such as “XKXKKXK” and “QOOQQOO,” were denied because they’re difficult to read and could pose problems for police officers.
More than 7,600 potential plates are on the state's permanent naughty list.
Illinois motorists pay an extra $94 for a new vanity plate, which contains all letters. A new “personalized” license plate, which is a combination of letters and numbers, costs an extra $47 a year.
Currently, there are 811,351 vehicles registered in Illinois with vanity or personalized license plates to Illinoisans, Giannoulias’s office said. Most are personalized plates.
