The Illinois General Assembly pulled an all nighter to get the 2023 Fiscal Year budget together.

Except for a couple of Senate Democrats, it was a party line vote. Senator Elgie R. Sims presented the budget in committee.

"This budget includes over $12 billion for primary or higher education. It includes $8.8 billion and human services funding, $2.2 billion in public safety funding. This is one of the best budgets that we have seen," Sims said.

Senator Don DeWitte was displeased.

"There's an interesting event that occurs in November that miraculously on January 1, most of this all goes back into effect," DeWitte said.

He pointed out the gas tax freeze will save you maybe 60 cents a tank.
