(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Fenton Community High School District Board of Education in Bensenville has approved a motion to seek an independent review of how allegations of sexual assault against a former teacher were handled.
Fenton High School Board President Cary Lewis said an independent review would “restore confidence” following an uproar in the community.
"This will be an unbiased evaluation of our procedures, compliance, the policies and regulations and the appropriateness of the action taken,” said Lewis.
The allegations against the teacher, who was fired last month, date back years.
Superintendent James Ongtengco was placed on leave by the board, under pressure from the mayor and community members.
Many believe he and others, including principal and interim superintendent, looked the other way.
No charges have been filed against the former teacher.
